Tab. 1: Basic data

Regional high resolution DTMs (sicily, sardinia, tuscany, trentino, south tyrol or lombardia) were not taken into account yet.

The dataset should be from October 2012. The WCS offers no date at all:

http://wms.pcn.minambiente.it/wcs/dtm_20m?service=wcs&request=getCapabilities

But there is another download as ESRI Grid File: https://directory.spatineo.com/service/46314/ with the creation date 10/2012.

The WCS is not covering Vatikan City, but the Grid File is.

The WCS data was filled with the missing data from the Grid file.

There were some voids in the area of Occhiobello:

The voids were filled with gdal_fillnodata.

There is also some other strange data in this region:

Italy stange data

Shift in the N240E440 dataset in the south-east.

There are also some values missing along the border.

The WCS contains the null values 0 and 32767. Thus 0 can be a real value, the raster dataset was subsetted with a polygon of italy and all null values where set to -32768 (with r.null from GRASS you could set multiple values to null).

Despite the different resolutions and ages compared to the high resolution DTMs of Slovenia and Austria the results are surprisingly good.
